Heroes of Cosplay: Season 2, Episode 1 Review

When rumors started to rumble that Heroes of Cosplay was coming back for a season two, the entire community wretched.  They also groaned, bitched, moaned, complained.  When they were taking applications for a new cast, half of those people stepped up to plate to be a part of the cast in hopes of fixing what had gone horribly wrong.  A few of those people who applied made it on.  And then the community held it’s breath in wonders of how this season would turn out.  And to be perfectly honest, after watching the first episode of the new season…

It was not that bad.

Seriously.  Read on and see.

The episode opens up with a complete, yet brief recap of season one.  And after that we see Yaya mentoring a new cosplayer and getting back into the game with her She-Ra cosplay at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo.  Also Jesse (who is cool in my book) is inspired to do a Megaman Cosplay.  Meanwhile, Holly, Jessica, and Chloe plan a Pokemon Y cosplay group; Trainer aka Dawn, Fennekin, and Yvetal.

I have noticed that there is more focus on the construction of these cosplays.  Worbla is introduced into this as this Indra Rojas uses it for her tiara, jewelry, and armor for her She-Ra cosplay.  We see Holly, Jessica, and Chloe up to the wee hours cutting out cardboard, craft-foam, and spray panting.  Up in the north east, Jesse is hard working away at Megaman.  They all arrive with minimal damage.  Jesse had to run out for paint due to parts of his cosplay getting scratched up in transit.

And now, showtime!

One thing I do like is that you will see a lot of the other cosplays during the costume contest / masquerade.  I was floored with seeing Sagittarius from Saint Seiya.  That did it for me.  That made up for Jesse’s Megaman.  It was bad, terribad.  Megaman doesn’t have body plate armor.  I’ve seen far better than that.  And then the drama… There was none.  I’m legit serious.  Everyone was very cordial to each other and it was amazing.

I’m not gonna lie, I enjoyed this episode.  I’m still a bit hesitant to go all in for this season.   I am going to wait until the rest of the cast shows up and then see where things go from there.  If you haven’t seen episode 1, you should.

Pro: OMG Sagittarius!  Best fucking cosplay!  OMG!

Con: Megaman… Dude, what were you thinking?!

Overall: So far it’s a near 180 degree change from last season.  I’d check it out.
