It’s time once more for another cosplayer interview! This next one, shared from Cosplay Blog with a Brain, is an interview with Dee Kay! She’s a newer cosplayer from Colorado, who enjoys making costumes by being thrifty!
What’s your cosplay alias and why did you choose it?
Mine is Dee Cay/Kay and I chose it because it’s close to my name and I like that it sounds like “decay”, lol!
How many years have you been cosplaying and what got you started?
I’ve been really cosplaying for about a year and it was my friends who owned Club Cosplay that got me into it.
What has been some of your favorite things to work with when constructing costumes and why?
Thrifted clothes! I’m all about thrifty crafting and I have found some amazing pieces to use in cosplays at thrift stores.
What are you excited to be working with in the future and why?
Mt. Lady from Boku no Hero Academia! I’m doing a group shoot at Colorado Springs Comic Con.
What are some of the traits you like to see in other costumes and who do you think does well in them?
Creating things you love, like the cosplayer, Jinglebooboo. She does amazing work (way more talented than me) and she absolutely loves each character she creates.
What is your view of the “cosplay scene”?
I feel it’s friendly and nerdy, lol!
What are some of the things you want to see change in the scene?
I’ve been hearing a lot about predatory photographers. I would really love to see that not happen again.
What is some advice you could give people starting to get into cosplay?
Just do it! You have to start somewhere, so just dive right in.
What are some of your favorite conventions you’ve attended and why?
Obviously San Diego Comic Con is one for me, but I loved GalaxyFest and some of the smaller, more intimate cons.
Give a random fact about one of your costumes that you’re proud of!
My Cammy from Street Fighter is the first costume I’ve made and I’m excited to unveil her after I get all of her put together finally!
