It’s time once more for another cosplayer interview! This next one, shared from Cosplay Blog with a Brain, is an interview with Arcane Drifter! He’s a more veteran cosplayer from New York, who chooses to keep out of the drama in the community and enjoy the fun!
What’s your cosplay alias and why did you choose it?
Arcane Drifter; I chose it because I’m majorly a solo cosplayer and tend to do my own thing regardless of it being popular or not.
How many years have you been cosplaying and what got you started?
I started 9 years ago. I can’t really recall what got me started because of how long its been.
What has been some of your favorite things to work with when constructing costumes and why?
I don’t have any favorites mostly because I don’t have the skills to construct a lot of things.
What are you excited to be working with in the future and why?
I’m excited to be able to get larger scale things like my God Arc or full outfits that include helmets. It’s something I wasn’t able to have access to in my previous years.
What are some of the traits you like to see in other costumes and who do you think does well in them?
This is a difficult question to answer because it’s a combination of different things. Whether it be the costume itself, the props, or even the photos taken of the costume.
What is your view of the “cosplay scene”?
My view on the scene? Looking back on when I started a lot of things changed and that it’s not about the fun and friendship as it used to be. Part of why I am mostly a solo cosplayer is that there is the mentality of fame or getting ahead over friendship or having fun.
What are some of the things you want to see change in the scene?
I’d like less drama and less fighting amongst each other. Were all just nerds in costume looking to have fun and make friends.
What is some advice you could give people starting to get into cosplay?
Go out there and have fun. Don’t let drama or toxic people ruin it for you.
What are some of your favorite conventions you’ve attended and why?
My favorite convention to date would have to be Anime Expo. The guests they bring every year are amazing and its the reason I keep going back.
Give a random fact about one of your costumes that you’re proud of!
A few of my cosplays have made me a bit more tolerable to cold weather over the past couple of years.
