Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (Erased) Review

Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (Erased)

This is the story of Satoru Fujinuma, age 29. He has an ability to go back several minutes to try and fix something that goes wrong. He calls it a “revival.” When he is suddenly accused of murdering a family member, his ability sends him back 18 years! Will he make the right decisions and fix what went wrong?

He goes back to when he was in elementary school and some of his classmates are being kidnapped and murdered. He now has a chance to make a difference in the lives of those who were killed, but at what price? You get to meet his friends Kayo, Kenya, Hiromi, Kazu, Osamu and many more characters who really make this story what it is.

This series kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. From episode 1 until episode 12, I was craving more. I also read the manga (a total of 8 volumes, unfortunately not yet available in the US) and absolutely loved it. The endings are different, so if you started with the anime, check out the manga and vice versa. The opening also catches attention. It’s by Asian Kung-fu Generation.

This series is only in Japanese at this time, but Aniplex has made their announcement that this will be dubbed in the future. Also, there was a live action movie that was made in Japan, it aired over the spring season, I have yet to find it.

Honestly, I wish that the series (both manga and anime) went longer and into more detail. If they just took their time to just relish some of the more intense moments, instead of trying to cram the series into 8 books and 12 episodes, this would have been even more epic. This series would have been crazy as a 26 episode series…exploring every nook and cranny of the characters.

You really will get hooked on this series from episode 1. You also can’t help but try and predict who the killer is and hope that the story ends well. I have no really “bad” things to say about this series and I would go so far to say that it’s my favorite anime of 2016 so far.
