What has to be the biggest rumor of the anime industry is that FUNimation is currently sitting on the license to Sailor Moon and they were just waiting to make the big announcement. Some conventions have even said that they are the license holders. But today at Anime Central, that rumor has been officially squashed! Viz Video has announced that they are the exclusive license holders of Sailor Moon in the United States!
They have announced that they will be re-releasing all 200 episodes, movies, and specials on DVD and BluRay this fall… In the original 4:3 aspect! Along with this release, they will be casting a new dub of the series with the original names, background music, everything… Completely unedited! Yes, that also mean Sailor Stars! Viz will release the first four television anime episodes with English subtitles on Neon Alley and Hulu Plus this Monday. This will then be followed by two more episodes will then debut every Monday.
Also upon the heels of this announcement, they will be releasing and dubbing Sailor Moon Crystal as well! Viz has not said much about this today, but more information will be revealed at Anime EXPO.
