I don’t really have to post a more elaborate article than that; the title says it all. Hell, the [adult swim] article detailing as much says just as much, including the Twitter hashtag of the same phrase.
Still, if you grew up in the mid- to late-1990s, this was the programming block to watch. For many, it was the first exposure to anime in the West, with titles such as Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, and Ronin Warriors gracing the airwaves, among countless others. It had tons of action-oriented programs that made it almost impossible to get excited about.
Ever since its dissolution in 2008, long time fans have been clamoring for its return. Then, on this past April Fool’s Day, Cartoon Network—that is, [adult swim]—interrupted its (dubious) tradition of broadcasting The Room with T.O.M. 3.0 appearing aboard his ship Absolution, greeting viewers and introducing that night’s episode of Bleach. There’s no written record of the viewer base’s reaction being a collective, “O hai T.O.M. (massive spit-take) Holy shit, was that T.O.M.?!”, so we’ll err on the side of caution and say that it was. T.O.M. would appear in various bumpers throughout the night. The next day, [as] merely suggested on their Twitter page to their fans to let them know if they want it back. Weeks later, [as] bumpers told the viewers, “[we’re listening].”
Whether it’s the quality programming or the opportunity to hear Steven Jay Blum’s voice coming out of the mouth of T.O.M., the fact remains that [adult swim] has indeed listened to the viewers, and is indeed bringing it back. They’ve set the date as Saturday, May 26th as the night Toonami returns to Cartoon Network. And we here at Anime Jam Session will be waiting, just like the rest of you.
See you on the 26th, space cowboys.
